Padres Sign 16 Year Old Prospect Ethan Salas For 5.6 Million

Padres signed catching prospect for a generous 5.6 million dollar signing bonus. Yes, the Padres just gave essentially their whole budget for one player, the top ranked prospect for many coming into this international class. Baseball runs strong throughout the Salas family. His brother Jose is a talented prospected already in the Marlins system. Their father played in the Braves organization and uncle played in the Blue Jays system. It does not stop there though, Ethan’s grandfather played in the Astros and Royals organization as well.

16-year-old Ethan probably had a glove in his hand the same time he started walking. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, his size and left-handed hitting ability has everyone excited. Reports state he has soft hands and a plus arm, making him an all-around standout in this year’s class.

The hobby will be hot for this one, duh. It’s yet to be determined whether he will start his career in the states or participate in the Dominican summer rookie league. A massive win for the Padres, now let’s see how it plays out.
